MCC Bike Ride - Day 3 (Trail of the Coeur d’Alenes from Kellogg to Plummer and back)

Today was our big day of riding. We are were riding the Trail of the Coeur d’Alenes and we had the option of riding to Harrison and back for 76 miles or going a little further to Plummer and back for a Century (108 miles). The plan was to go big and we did. This will probably be the easiest century I will ever complete. The trail is mostly flat and we pretty much had a tail wind the whole way back. The views were spectacular. We had deer walking by us on the trail and on the way back we saw a Moose vegging out to the side of the trail. We also got to enjoy some delicious ice cream in Harrison, ID. I chose Moose Tracks in the hopes of see a moose at some point on the ride. The views of the wetlands, Coeur d'Aleses River and Lake did not disappoint. The volunteers helping with the snack and lunch stations have been amazing! I can't thank them enough for all their help. If you are a cyclist, this is a must ride trail!!!! Just make sure you bring plenty of water.

If you are interested in the history of the trail and this mining community and the efforts to clean up the environment in the area, as a result of the mining, you can visit http://www.deq.idaho.gov/regional-offices-issues/coeur-dalene/bunker-hill-superfund-site/. There is also a book tittle Idaho’s Bunker Hill: The Rise and Fall of a Great Mining Company.

Tomorrow is a trail that I have been most excited for. We will be riding The Route of the Hiawatha. I'll be riding my road bike on gravel, so hopefully that goes well. I'm also extremely excited because the whole family will be able to ride with me.

MCC Bike Ride - Day 2 (Spokane River Centennial Trail, from Post Falls to Spokane downtown Riverfront Park and back)

Ride Out

Ride Back

Today was a beautiful day riding along the Spokane River. As shown above on my strava data, It's the first time I've ever ridden across a state line and it was also the first time I've ever been stung by a bee. My buddy Jeremy also got stung a minute prior. We had a great tailwind on the way to Spokane and it really didn't get that hot till we were on our way back. Unfortunately we did not stop to swim in the river. The drive from Kellogg to Post Falls was also filled with beautiful scenery as drove past Lake Coeur d'Alene.

Heather and the kids have been amazing on this trip. Heather's help as support for the lunch services has been amazing. Today all three kids helped with making ice cream for our dessert tonight.

Tomorrow is our big day of riding and we'll be attempting to ride 100 miles. Most of the ride will be on the Trail of the Coeur d’Alenes bot instead of goind East like Monday, we'll be riding West toward Lake Coeur d’Alenes. We may even get to see Moose.
